Like mentioned in my last blog post, I want this Plastic Eyes project to invoke the same feelings hardcore did for me when I first heard it. So many of my favorite bands had songs that criticized Ronald Reagan, so I wanted to do one too. This is it.
In 2010, I started recording for, what I had originally intended to be a solo project, called Barbarian Riot Squad. BRS ended up as a real band about a year and a half later, but I still had an itch to do something on my own and on my own terms. Don’t get me wrong, I love what BRS has become, is becoming, and I absolutely adore my bandmates! Maybe its narcissism, but I wanted to do a project that is all me… for better or worse. Something that will be all my fault if it falls face first in the mud or a pat on the back if someone likes it.
So… in 2012, I started recording a new solo project called Plastic Eyes. The name comes from a song that an old band of mine called Pitch Black, which I still hold near and dear to my heart, did some years ago. The idea of Plastic Eyes is to be an ode to the music I grew up with and have never stopped loving. Hardcore. More specifically… Hardcore Punk Rock! I feel like I have to put the “punk” qualifier on that because of what Hardcore has morphed into. Plastic Eyes is nothing original, but my hopes is that it is a nice call back to the Hardcore Punk bands that influenced me as a geeky punk kid in the 80s.
Plastic Eyes isn’t a sports team jersey wearing Hardcore band. Its not right wing militant Hardcore either. Its just fast, straight forward Punk Rock. My goal is to keep it pure, simple, and honest while keeping the DIY spirit alive… with some aggression.
I hope you enjoy it and maybe I’ll see you in the pit!
